At the Club Annual Meeting in 2020, the Stewart family and College Rifles announced that they have jointly agreed to establish a Trust, as a long term legacy in remembrance of Don (Grumpy), to be known as the:
Don Stewart Memorial Trust
The Fund is to be established as a charitable trust, initially funded by:
•Grumpy’s generous gift of $250,000;
•College Rifles matching this gift with an equivalent amount; plus
•A further $250,000 ‘Supporters Contribution’ to be raised in future from donations, bequeaths and retaining income.
Grumpy’s Vision for the donation was to enable:
•Rifles to serve our community by being the home of New Zealand’s leading Premier Rugby and Sports Club;
•Access to the leading sporting field and facilities at College Rifles Park by way of replacement, upgrade and future development; and
•Distributions from income, for the promotion and encouragement of member welfare for any Club member, player or volunteer, by making an annual grant to individuals in the Rifles community.
Supporters Contribution – Target $250,000
The Trustees and ‘Friends of Grumpy’ wish to further develop the contribution of the fund, in recognition of a lifelong supporter and benefactor of College Rifles.
As a result a number of announcements will be made during 2021 to support Don’s vision and enhance this legacy.
•If you can assist in any way please make contact with your Club Representatives Mark Hutton or Peter Kempson;
•Note as a registered charity, all donations are tax deductible.
