We are asking our Junior Club members or anyone willing to help us commemorate ANZAC Day this year by making their own poppies.
So, we can see your awesome work we would love for you to take a photo of yourself and your poppy wearing some Rifles gear, if you have any. Then send in your photo or tag your image into our Facebook page or check in at College Rifles with your photo.
The poppy reminds us of sacrifices made, both past and present, as they were the first flowers that grew in the battlefields of Flanders in Belgium during World War One and are a symbol of remembrance and hope.
In a tribute to the Club’s proud military history and to honour the 54 “Riflemen” that lost their lives in World War One, our goal is to try and get at least 54 poppies made in remembrance of each of our "Riflemen Soldiers" so please help us honour these great men by making a poppy to thank them for what they sacrificed for us.
Poem - 'In Flanders fields'
In Flanders’ fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row
That mark our place, and in the sky
The larks still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the dead, short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow.
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders’ fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe,
To you from failing hands we throw
The Torch: be yours to hold it high!
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders’ fields.
